The Origin
In 1976, Melanie Kennedy gave birth to a son with developmental delays.
She and her husband, Ben, made a decision that would shape the rest of their lives: to build a home that looked, felt, and functioned like any other family home, not a facility.
By 1988, they were licensed foster parents. Two years later, they welcomed their first child into their home. What began as one family caring for one child soon became something bigger.
The Moment That Changed Everything
When their son was five, Ben and Melanie sat in a meeting about benefits for adults with developmental disabilities. Someone suggested clients should pay for their own dinners...
Out of their own money.
That one comment stayed with them. It became the reason Eagle's Nest exists: every person deserves to be treated with dignity, to have a say, and to know their rights are respected (not to be reminded of what they lack).
